We identified the issue of ‘How to skateboard safely’.
Throughout this task we found a substantial amount of evidence that contributes
to our how too and added information and ideas to our project. We found various links on websites to YOUTUBE videos,
which helped us, research falls and injuries and skating in general forms via
visual communication. We also used the Internet to research graphs, statistics
and key facts on skateboarding. To further extend our knowledge on the brief
set we also as a group looked at specific books such as ‘Data Flow’ that
allowed us to review layout, positioning and ideas for our ‘how to.’ We categorised
our research into primary – which was developing questionnaires to hand out to
skaters and non-skaters on the use of safely equipment and stories on injuries,
we used the quantative research to develop graphs to portray these in a visual
way to develop this for our target audience.
By using these methods we developed a layout plan and idea
scheme for this brief. When developing out design we found that the 3d aspects
to the poster were very hard to develop and portray. We wanted to create a
sense of positioning but it was hard to gather angular balance between each
section of the board. We gambled with the idea and still went on with the
design but the image at the end as a final product looked quite cramped. We
decided that the 3d skateboard was a vital piece of our design and all kept
working on it to overcome this. I think we could have developed more research
on visual layout and presentation, we got an initial idea and just went for it –
instead we should of carried out more research if we had more time to develop
this further to gain a better perception of the ideas we were trying to
portray.
I feel that this project was good for team building, it
taught us a lot for the future and develop my team building skills. I feel I could
have contributed more to the group if we had more time. Although ideas that we
all had and shared were discussed equally and fairly to focus on the design
aspect only.
5 things I have learned:
That listening to people’s ideas is vital to becoming a
better designer,
That keeping to a time limit within group activities is hard
and needs balance,
Forwarding your ideas is key otherwise you’ll get left
behind
Sectioning off sections is a good way of getting all group members
involved,
COMMUNICATION IS KEY.
5 things I would do differently:
Develop my ideas,
Decide to collaborate further,
Get more research,
Listen,
Get stuck in.
