- POINT OF CONTACT
Audience For Website;
- Always have a target audience > not aimed at everyone > certain groups / genders / ages etc.
AUDIENCE IS NEVER FOR EVERYONE.
THREE IMPORTANT FACTORS OF A WEBSITE:
1. USABILITY > If it doesn't work then there is no point. Does it for well?
2. AESTHETICS > How visually appealing is it?
3. FUNCTIONALITY > Does it work?
DESIGNING > GET OFF THE COMPUTER > DESIGN OFF SCREEN.
TASK 1:
> List the content that you should incorporate on your personal internet page as a graphic designer. How many pages > what would i have on my OWN website.
Group Page ideas:
> Landing page > Intro to portfolio page > Good Bad? I feel it is bad because it is a waste of internet page, click to enter? it seems to take people away from your work, doesn't attract, > disruption, when you have made it, then you can get one > until then, people just want to see your work straight away.
> For any web page > WHY? WHY IS IT THERE? WHAT IS THE POINT > if you can't describe the point then its a pointless page. > POINTLESS = BAD DESIGN
> Contact page > email > twitter > studio address > name > tel. Number > Map? Social network > Blog > Map > Facebook > biG cartel (shop) COULD BE A FOOTER OF INFORMATION
> About Page > CV PAGE > clients / exhibitions > education > for clients to see you > gives timescale.
CV page > Professional, having a degree can make a difference > but need to broadcast your skills.
Freelance > LET WORK SPEAK FOR ITSELF
Studio Job > CV for human resources / Creative cv
CV IN A NICE FORMAT THAT FUTHER PROMOTES YOUR DESIGN WORK
Portfolio
Its about how you decided to catagorise your work.
* CATEGORISE VERY IMPORTANT
Figure out pages > Shop? Contact page ? portfolio > cv > About > Link to blog?
Homepage >
FIRST IMPRESSION > HAS TO BE GOOD, news page? > similar o blog? this could go onto homepage so you have running news feed > ACTIVE DESIGNER > Can see things working on . with/ teaser image rest on portfolio page.
Have minimalist approach > people need to be impressed by it or it looks like you've not tried. PEOPLE NEED TO BE INSPIRED, BE CREATIVE!!!!!!
Manifesto
(Images of work > quotes > name > email > contact)
<<<<<<<< HOMEPAGE IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PAGE ON WEBSITE >>>>>>
Fees : easy access for client BUT most designers don't do it, depends on client > rates always vary > seems like your only interested in money > discounts > people you like? don't like? ETC.
I personally would not place this on my blog because i don't feel its appropriate.
Splitting of portfolio? > too much? time wasting > looks smaller then it actually is > looks like you've not done enough work > too much clicking and wasting time.
TASK 2:
What pages you would have on website > draw the homepage > Specific for what needs to go onto the website : include navigation header footer:
Feedback from my Webpage layout:
* Interactive and lots of information, maybe too much? Might be confusing to navigate, could be simplified.
* Top half is simple and easy for the eyes. Balancing between header and footer.
* Interesting layout, i like how it has navigation bar then page. Perhaps too much info on page, makes it difficult to concentrate on one thing.
* Improvement, way overcrowded, not sue where to begin, competition of attention.
* Too much going on. I do like the idea of daily activity but doesn't look professional, might be a bit confusing.
* Layout looks slightly scattered, content is all relevant, to much going on, Cool logo idea.
* Interactive logo idea is good. Activity feed works well, overall its very cluttered, address would be in contact so no need for it at footer.
* Would work well if layout remind portrait on screen. Reduce boxes / amount of.
EXTRA:
Group Feedback on Web page layout:
> Clean layout but unoriginal
> Navigation, should remain constant though all pages.
> Scrollbar : Waste of space in some cases.
> REDUNDANT FEATURES > need to manage information.
> KISS : keep it simple stupid > keep it simple, don't
> Use Grid format : Doing this layout, in digital domain it makes a difference. When mocking up page, make your grids. Guidelines, figure out where things are going to go, if it is in paper > looks more professional and you can use to present in a positive way. Looks good because you are in fractional proportions, aesthetic quality. If you have a grid then you can creak it when designing if you need.
LAYOUT GRID FIRST! ALWAYS!
